چکیده

To explain latency effects in picture-word interference tasks (Glaser & Düngelhoff, 1984, cf. Stroop, 1935), cognitive models need to account for both interference and SOA effects. As opposed to most ACT-R models, which model the time course in a ballistic manner, the RACE model (Retrieval by ACcumulating Evidence) presented here accounts for semantic interference during the retrieval interval. This way, RACE offers a better account of semantic memory retrieval latencies in different interference and SOA conditions. We describe the architectural assumptions of RACE and simulations of a Glaser and Düngelhoff experiment, illustrating the validity of the RACE model.

An accumulator model of semantic interference Action editor : Andrea Stocco

To explain latency effects in picture-word interference tasks, cognitive models need to account for both interference and stimulus onset asynchrony (SOA) effects. As opposed to most models of picture-word interference, which model the time course during the task in a ballistic manner, the RACE model (retrieval by accumulating evidence) presented in this paper accounts for semantic interference ...

Neuropsychological Decomposing Stroop Interference Into Different Cognitive ‎Monitoring; An Exploratory Factor Analysis

Introduction: There are two alternative explanations of the Stroop phenomenon. Several studies have revealed that the difference in performance on congruent and incongruent trials can arise from response interference. On the contrary, many authors have claimed that Stroop interference might occur at earlier processing stages related to semantic or conceptual encoding. The present study aims to ...

Word Type Effects on L2 Word Retrieval and Learning: Homonym versus Synonym Vocabulary Instruction

The purpose of this study was twofold: (a) to assess the retention of two word types (synonyms and homonyms) in the short term memory, and (b) to investigate the effect of these word types on word learning by asking learners to learn their Persian meanings. A total of 73 Iranian language learners studying English translation participated in the study. For the first purpose, 36 freshmen from an ...

Semiautomatic Image Retrieval Using the High Level Semantic Labels

Content-based image retrieval and text-based image retrieval are two fundamental approaches in the field of image retrieval. The challenges related to each of these approaches, guide the researchers to use combining approaches and semi-automatic retrieval using the user interaction in the retrieval cycle. Hence, in this paper, an image retrieval system is introduced that provided two kind of qu...

Semantic and Syntactic Interference in Sentence Comprehension: A Comparison of Working Memory Models

This study investigated the nature of the underlying working memory system supporting sentence processing through examining individual differences in sensitivity to retrieval interference effects during sentence comprehension. Interference effects occur when readers incorrectly retrieve sentence constituents which are similar to those required during integrative processes. We examined interfere...
